UK Swindon, UK, 12th December 2007 – UK Office Direct Ltd today announced that they have made a sizeable donation to ‘Callum’s Appeal’ a worthy local cause to help five-year-old Callum Kaye, who has a life-threatening brain tumour.
Michael Griffin, Managing Director said, "Callum is only five, and if that was my six-year-old daughter Nicole, I would be devastated".
"I can only imagine what the family are going through."
But his parents Anna Eagle and Craig Kaye are determined to take him to a hospital in New York for revolutionary treatment. They need to raise £175,000 as a deposit - and a total of £400,000 to pay for the treatment and associated costs.
Callum was diagnosed with medulloblastoma - a severe brain tumour - in October 2005. A month later, doctors managed to remove 80 per cent of the tumour, but after 3 cycles of chemotherapy and 6 weeks of radiotherapy to the brain and spine they failed to remove the rest and told the family that no more can be achieved with NHS treatment.
Michael said: "It is a shame the NHS can't do more.
“It is nice to offer something back even if it is only a little thing.
“As a company we wanted to do our bit”.
Callum's family hope to take him to the Sloan Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Centre for treatment next year.
Anna, Callum’s mum said: "We're very pleased that there are people out there who care enough to make donations like this.
"I am extremely grateful for all the support we are getting.
"As a family we are chuffed to bits."
